To prison officials who know him, Brad Hompe is considered a reliable expert when it comes to evaluating and quite possibly improving prison and jail operations. That expertise comes about as a result of his experience in all aspects of corrections. He has engaged in jail and prison planning and design, of course, and he has played a key role in policy development, including developing policies regarding the use of force. Brad has also managed the development and implementation of training and evaluation of corrections personnel and he has directed policy development on incident management. Brad Hompe has so much experience in the corrections environment that he can also claim expertise in the areas of food service, sanitation and maintenance, classification and supervision and even fire safety.
The simplest reason Brad Hompe is considered an expert is due to his experience. There is almost nothing he hasn’t done in the corrections environment. He has been a prison staff employee, of course, as well as a jail inspector, an instructor and trainer. However, that is only the tip of his experience. During his time with WI-DOC, Brad Hompe has done just about everything because he worked his way up the ranks. At one point, he served as a prison warden, but leading up to that he worked his way up the ladder. Brad Hompe starting out as a corrections officer, soon becoming a Sergeant, then a Lieutenant and a Captain, before he became a unit manager and deputy warden, all on his way to becoming warden.
Nowadays, Brad Hompe serves the Wisconsin Department of Corrections (WI-DOC) as a Corrections Complaint Examiner and Investigator. And he got to that point based on his high level of experience and his expertise in every aspect of the corrections industry. He is acknowledged as an expert because there is almost nothing he hasn’t experienced.
